And isn't that how we respond to Christ? Saying yes to all He offered at the cross? But what about all the moments after? How do we live our yes - today, right now? While saying yes to becoming a Christian is most important as the first step, it's all the daily yeses that are the evidence that we really accepted His proposal.
You see, He got down on one knee for us. He didn't force or command, He asked. He invited us into a relationship with Him. He put everything on the line. He gave Himself and continues to give Himself to us in unending ways. And we can either turn a blind eye, say no to perfect Love or say yes...and live it. We can practice oneness with Him by saying yes to whatever He gives us and wherever He calls us.
I'm inspired by testimonies of people like Moriah Peters who sang at Bayside Church last Saturday and shared her story on I Am Second. Her life has been a string of yeses. Yes to singing for God's glory. Yes to His will when American Idol voted her off the show. Yes to the very difficult decision to save her first kiss for her wedding day.
Our yeses all look different. Courage takes on many faces. For me, it's the day-in, day-out battle to choose joy - opening up to God and all His goodness in each moment and then trusting Him with my future. Saying yes even when I don't know what it's going to look like.
It's exhilarating....terrifying....but worth it.
After all, didn't He say yes to us?
For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him. That is why it is through Him that we utter our Amen to God for His glory. -2 Corinthians 1:20
