So there's nothing left to fear
So I'll walk with you in the shadowlands
Till the shadows disappear
'Cause he promised not to leave us
And his promises are true
So in the face of all this chaos, baby,
I can dance with you
Once in a while I come across a song that just grabs my attention. The lyrics are poetic and deep, and I find myself printing them off, underlining them, returning to them...hoping they become a part of me. The two stanzas above are from "Dancing in the Minefields" by Andrew Peterson. I actually wanted to post the entire song because it's that good. Peterson sings about a love that's "harder than we dreamed", but chooses to weather life's storms. And then the last stanza: "Cause He promised not to leave us and His promises are true..."
That is what enables us to love. That is the one, true example of love. He won't leave. Ever.
That's the kind of love I long for every day. A love that holds on. A love that says, "no matter what you do, I will always love you. You can't ever scare me away; you can't fall so far that you find yourself alone. You can't run so far that you're out of my sight. No, I have a firm grip on you, now into all eternity."
And to think that love is available to all of us! And every relationship is simply meant to point to that one, great love...that one great God who loves us immeasurably.
But how blind I am. I look at human attempts at love and elevate that above the power and wonder and passion of God's love for me. "God loves me" has become a nice, little phrase when it should be the one truth that rocks me to the core and changes everything!
So let's pray together that our eyes will be opened and our attention arrested by His love. After all, we can never be too amazed by Him! :)
